Universal Expansion Joint

Universal type expansion joint is a joint capable of absorbing not only displacement in the axial movement, but also displacement in the lateral deflection. The number of corrugation of two bellows determines displacement in the axial movement and angular rotation of two bellows and length of the intermediate pipe determines displacement in the lateral deflection. This joint can absorb displacement in the lateral deflection in 360direction. In case of pipe without displacement in the axial movement, as internal pressure thrust is restricted by the tie-rod, this rod does not act on the
anchor. |
The balance type is, however, very effective in cases where this fixation is impossible or is too costly, according to the piping site or the increase of inside diameter and pressure. The balance type comprises 3kinds, i.e., L type balance, S type balance and T type balance each of which balance the internal pressure thrust so as not to apply the thrust on fixing point. Since the thrust is the product of the sectional area of pipe and the pressure, the larger the diameter of pipe becomes and the higher the pressure becomes, the more difficult the fixation becomes and the higher the anchor cost becomes. These balanced types have been contemplated to make this thrust zero. With the recent increase in the diameter of piping and the pressure, the demand of these balanced types increases year after year making them indispensable for the design of piping. |

Hinge type expansion joint is a joint that absorbs angular rotation of single plane. As thrust due to internal pressure, weight of the joint itself and external force are fully supported by the hinge pin and the hinge arm, only the forced required for bending the bellows acts on the anchor. It is effective for piping where anchors on the top of a tower or those around an apparatus can not be accommodated completely. By combining 2 or 3 Hinge type expansion joint, the amount of elongation of the pipe can be absorbed by one or continuous operation of displacement in the lateral deflection and angular rotation. |
Gibal Expansion Joint & Multiply

Hinge type expansion joint can absorb only angular rotation in single direction, but gimbal type expansion joint is of such construction that two sets of hinge pins and hinge arms are provided on the gimbal ring at a portion of 90, so that it is capable of absorbing compounds displacement in two direction simultaneously. As the hinge pin supports thrust due to internal pressure and other loads, only the force required to bend the bellows acts on the anchor. |
Jacket Expansion Joint & Flexible Joint

The bellows of Jacket type joints are of the double pipe construction consisting of the inner pipe and the outer pipe in order to smooth flow of the fluid by applying heat, when the fluid coagulates into solid or becomes highly viscous under normal temperature, the fluid of the products flowing through the inner pipe and heated fluid flowing through the outer pipe. There are two kinds of jacket type joint. Jacket type expansion joint which absorbs displacement in the axial movement and jacket type flexible joint which absorbs displacement in the lateral deflection. |
